Notable Students
Mike comes from a family of golf professionals and has been around the game his entire life. Growing up in the business, he learned all the foundational principles of a good golf swing and he has put those to use as both a player and instructor.
Mike turned professional in 1992 and earned his PGA Membership in 1995. He attended college at Methodist University, played on the golf team and was part of the 1991 NCAA Division III National Championship squad. Mike has worked and taught at great facilities such as Ford's Colony, Wee Burn Country Club and Grand Cypress, and he is now the Director of Golf Operations at Carolina Trace Country Club in Sanford, North Carolina.
Teaching is a passion for Mike. He has never stopped learning about the game of golf and he welcomes the chance to work with players of all ability levels.
Each person that takes a lesson from me has different levels of physical strength, flexibility and talent and they are treated on an individual basis. In a first lesson I spend much of the time observing and asking questions. It is important to get to know a person first before you can start to lead them in a certain direction. People have different ways of learning and different work habits. I will fit a swing and set of principles that work with a person's ability and desires. With regard to the golf swing; ball flight is the most important. It has been proven over time that there is not one swing that works for everyone. From the ball flight I can trace back to what makes the ball do what it is doing and from that point make the necessary adjustment to their pre-swing or in-swing principles to produce a more desirable ball flight.
“I never had a golf lesson until I was past 50 years of age and my game often shows it. For many years I relied mostly on arm strength and swinging hard to propel the golf ball. Fortunately, our Head Professional at Carolina Trace Country Club, Michael Krick, is a patient and effective teacher. Over the past few years my game has improved with Mike's help, that is until I start forgetting the things he has taught me. A tune-up lesson or two with Mike usually gets me back to where I am enjoying playing golf again. After one of his lessons I went out and made a hole-in-one! What more could you ask for from your Head Pro? ”
“Michael Krick has been my golf instructor for approximately 15-20 years. He has the ability to communicate his ideas in an easily understandable fashion, often utilizing easy to understand analogies. Michael has a number of various swing aids so that the student may actually feel the recommended changes. And finally, his use of video technology enables the student to not only see the flaws but understand the etiology of the flaw and the subsequent fix. I have been extraordinarily gifted in life with success. This has allowed me exposure to golf, many of the best golf courses in the world and access to many of the best instructors. I have never encountered any Golf Pro that has the required package of skills as does Michael Krick.”
“I have been involved in the game of golf for many years and have had numerous lessons from PGA instructors throughout the country, all of whom have been highly regarded in the game of golf. I am thankful to all of them that have lent a hand in helping me play better golf. Unfortunately, I had to undergo some serious back surgery a few years ago that put my game on a hiatus. I lost my confidence in my ability to play as well as developing a fear of harming myself by playing the game. However, working with Mike Krick the last few months has given me the ability to sharpen my short game, lengthen my power shots and instill confidence in myself. Mike has brought me back into the game of golf. Mike is a person who gives his students his complete attention during the lesson as well as his interest in their progress after the lesson. He is a “follow- up” person. I highly recommend Mike as an instructor to anyone who takes the game of golf seriously. He is a credit to his profession.”
