Rotate your shoulders, don't sway your hips

Where does power come in the golf swing? The vast majority of power comes from the differential in the rotation between your shoulders and your hips.

In short: Your shoulders should rotate away from the ball, while your hips should remain as stable as possible. Power relates in the energy that builds in your trunk as it torques around its axis.

What saps power from your swing? Many amateur golfers, rather than maintaining a strong but quiet lower body, sway their hips off the ball as their shoulders are rotating during the backswing. This not only saps power, but also creates timing issues, resulting in inconsistencies in attack plane and ball-striking.

In this video lesson, SwingFix instructor Justin Bruton from the Biltmore Golf Course in Miami demonstrates a simple drill for working on stabilizing your lower body while creating more torque.
