Neutralize your grip, keep the clubface square
By Kiel Christianson
The bugaboo of the slice is so powerful for most amateur golfers that they sometimes overcompensate. The most common overcompensation is strengthening their grip.
Next thing you know, the grip is ultra-strong, with the hands practically underneath the club. Consequently, the dreaded slice has transformed into a smother hook, with the hands turning over and the clubface closing down way too early.
Now, this transformation doesn’t happen overnight – it's usually pretty gradual. So it's important to check your grip periodically.
In this swing tip video, Brian Mogg, Director of Instruction at the Waldorf Astoria Golf Academy in Orlando, Fla., demonstrates how to check your grip and neutralize it, to avoid the evils associated with both a too-strong and a too-weak grip.
