Instruction in Paradise at Leadbetter Academy
By Kiel Christianson
More and more, golf academies are marketing themselves as "destinations," where golfers can not only work on their games, but also soak in some local ambiance and find some rest and relaxation.
I don't know about you, but when I think "destination" or R&R, I think Hawaii. If you've never been there, you owe it to yourself. Hawaiians like to call their islands paradise, and when you go there, you understand why.So what better place for a destination academy than the most laid-back of all the Hawaiian islands, Maui.
The David Leadbetter Golf Academy at Wailea Golf Club offers one- to three-day mini-schools, private lessons, junior summer camps, immersive golf instruction retreats, players' schools, ladies' schools, and even lessons with the man, the myth, the master himself, David Leadbetter.
The Wailea Golf Club, home to the Academy, is located on the side of a dormant volcano, Mt. Haleakala, and boasts three lush, scenic courses. The resort's Gold Course used to be home of the Senior Skins Tournament.
So if you happen to be hankering for a sunny, tropical getaway, where better to escape to for some dream golf and world-class instruction? How can you beat Paradise?
