Improve your takeaway and eliminate a sway

Martin Hall, Director of Instruction at Ibis Golf and Country club, often begins his lessons with a sort of accusatory tone, and this swing tip video is no different:

"You are swaying on the backswing!"

The thing is, though, he's also often spot-on with his assessments.

In this case, he calls out those of us who sway our bodies back off the ball as we take the club away. We're swaying "like a palm in the breeze," as Hall says.

In the "rope drill" that Hall demonstrates here, you stick a couple of club shafts into the turf and use a length of rope to get the feeling for what a non-swaying backswing should feel like: sort of like how it feels to pull the starting cord on a lawn mower.

You might look funny doing this one, but it'll ingrain a solid takeaway.
