Create more width in your backswing for power
By Kiel Christianson
Amateur golf swings leak power like old garden hoses leak water.
One of the biggest power-leaking moves is a narrow backswing. The wider the backswing, the more your torso coils, and that's where power comes from.
If you want evidence of the power a wide backswing delivers, take a look at Bubba Watson's or J.B Holmes's swing. Neither one is textbook, but both are wider than most, and both guys hit it a country mile.
In this video segment, SwingFix instructor Justin Bruton describes a simple tip to trigger turning your chest away from the ball, rather than just lifting your arms: focus on turning the buttons on your shirt.
Keep those hands out away from your body, coil your torso, and you'll leak less power.
